Today Tonight Interview - as seen on 27/01/2010Tim Williamson and Escape from Debt
Today Tonight came across Escape from Debt when they were investigating the 'Debt Help' companies who charge high fees for their services. There are companies out there who charge upwards of $1000 for their services and bind you to a contract of service that continually drains you of your hard earned cash. For people who are already experiencing difficulties then this may send them over the financial edge. Financial counselling is a free service provided by groups such as Relationships Australia and we are proud to say that the counsellors there use Escape from Debt as a reference book not just for debt counselling but also for gambling addiction as well. Escape from Debt is recommended by the Credit Counsellors Association of Australia. ****************************************************************** The chance to appear on Today Tonight has been fantastic. After hearing about people being placed under further economic strain because of exhorbitant fees being charged by some debt management companies it was nice to be able to show Australia that there are better avenues for solving such problems.
A lot of finance books show techniques and are heavy on the facts and figures. Escape from Debt is like a conversation with a friend through which you explore the reasoning and beliefs in your personal situation. You'll find that the lessons you learn in 'Escape from Debt' will translate to every single part of your life. The steps to escaping from debt in particular are: Know why you would like to escape. Is it money, time, decrease worry and stress? Create a plan. Picture your target in vivid detail. Take some sort of action right now to make that plan real. Place your snowball at the top of the mountain and give it a push. It will move slowly at first but you will be surprised at the speed and power of the snowball as it rolls down the hill. Set up some rewards for achieving the different steps along the way. Make your journey fun and enjoyable. Keep taking action and keep moving forwards. Learn from any mistakes and use them to your advantage. Love yourself (not in a narcissistic way) and love your life.
